Russian Air Force jets hit 289 targets in the latest round of airstrikes against militant positions in Syria, Russian Defence Ministry spokesperson Igor Konashenkov confirmed during a press briefing at the Hmeymim Air Base in Latakia, Friday. "In the last two days - November 11 and 12 - aircraft from the Russian Air Force in the Syrian Arab Republic performed 107 combat sorties during which 289 targets were hit in the Aleppo, Damascus, Deir ez-Zor, Daraa, Idlib, Latakia, Hama, and Homs Provinces," Konashenkov stated. "As a result of these attacks 34 command and control points, 16 ammunition depots containing explosives and engine materials, and two factories for improvised weapons production and explosives for suicide bombers were destroyed," Konashenkov noted, adding that "three camps or terrorist training bases were destroyed with airstrikes against more than 100 fortified terrorist strongholds." The Defence Ministry spokesperson went on to say that large numbers of Syrian civilians were joining self-defence detachments across several provinces of the country to combat the so-called Islamic State (IS, ISIS, ISIL) and other militant organisations in Syria. "In Latakia, Tartus, Homs, Hama, Idlib and Damascus provinces locals are actively joining self-defence detachments. According to the information of Syrian General Staff more than 4,000 people serve in such subdivisions," Konashenkov said.
