Taliban Siege Police Headquarters in Southern Afghan Province Kill 26

Taliban gunmen have surrounded a police compound in the volatile southern province of Helmand.
A senior police officer said Monday that 19 policeman and seven soldiers have died during the siege.
Those still alive are trapped within the compound of their police headquarters.
Napas Khan, police chief in the Naw Zad district, told The Associated Press by telephone that the insurgents had advanced to within 20 meters of the compound.
As Khan spoke, gunfire and shouting could be heard in the background.
He added the attacks began at dawn, with checkpoints across the district being overrun.
