Lebanon: Funeral held for victim of Beirut suicide bombings

The funeral of one of the victims of Thursday's double suicide bomb attack in Beirut took place Friday in the southern Beirut suburb of Bourj al-Barajneh. Relatives, friends, and neighbours participated in the funeral march, carrying the coffin which was draped with the flag of the Lebanese Shiite organisation the Amal Movement. Other mourners armed with machine guns fired shots into the air as they marched to the cemetery where the deceased was buried. Shortly before 18.00 local time (16.00 GMT) on Thursday two powerful explosions went off in the Shiite majority neighbourhood of Bourj al-Barajneh, killing at least 43 people and injuring more than 240. One explosion took place outside a mosque and the other outside a shopping mall. Militants from the so-called Islamic State (IS, ISIS, ISIL) have claimed responsibility for the attack.
